Hawaiian Shirt - Introduction to Digital Media
Introduction ( Adding pattern to Hawaiian shirt)
This is one of amazing assignments or projects I've worked on so far where we were assigned to design a Hawaiian shirt. We are free to choose whether what kind of design we will going to make to create a pattern. The important part is that the Hawaiian shirt's Pattern should be realistic in a way that it has the resemblance of a real Hawaiian shirt.

Creative Process
At first I was not sure what kind of design I will going to use for this design until I looked at my old thumbnail works from my sketchbooks.
The image below was one my old sketch for Inktober day 2 "tranquil". I designed a person face that has the resemblance of Hannya mask of Japanese culture with the pipe as if it is smoking Tabaco or pot.
When I draw a face through muscle memory I often came up with idea of hannya mask
Since I like tattoo designs as well, especially hannya mask, So most of the portrait or face that I draw through memory appeared weird and has creepy looks.
Work flow
(Tracing the Hawaiian shirt through layers using pen tool ) once the Hawaiian shirt is embedded to the illustrator , I turned it into a template and create a new layer where i trace the Hawaiian shirt using the pen tool.
(Creating Pattern using Object / Pattern / Make ) Once the color has changed and the lines have applied , I create a pattern through Object / Pattern / make
Once the pattern has make it will redirect you to isolated layer where you can edit the created pattern.
After I finished editing the pattern I started to attached it to Hawaiian shirt, and arranged it properly using the key (`) to distort the design's arrangement, so it will look real.
Final Work
Conclusion
This project has taught Me how to use the pen tool efficiently. At first, when We started using pen tool , I have trouble using it where I struggle on making curves. For Me , that was the hardest part that I have encountered aside from doing the design for the pattern using the brush tool , for it takes lot of time to finished it. Moreover the amazing thing that surprise me about this project is the overall project itself. Since I haven't done it before I didn't know that it is possible to design an actual Hawaiian shirt's pattern in adobe illustrator. Furthermore if ever I will do it again I would like to do a different design that is also based from my old works since my goal for now is to recreate all of the thumbnails sketch that I had in my sketchbooks. Lastly, the best advice that I could give to others is that if you have struggle about whether what kind of design you will create, just try to recall and recreate your past works such as thumbnails sketch , for it is really a big help to cure artists block.
